On Wednesday, November 18, 2009 local male residents took time out of their daily schedules to come to Resurrection Medical Center's 2nd annual Men's Health Fair. Men of all age ranges registered to learn more about health issues, as well as participate in free screenings and activities. Various members of my staff represented Advanced Vision Specialists by providing no-cost Glaucoma and vision screenings at a booth located within the fair. I believe it is my duty to educate the public about ocular health awareness; what better way to do this thanby providing free screenings, in a friendly and informative atmosphere.
In addition to free screenings, our booth also raffled a $400 Maui Jim sunglasses and accessory gift basket. The gift basket's most e xciting item was a pair of attractive Maui Jim sunglasses, which offer the best eye protection from the sun's damaging effects. Some gentlemen were quite surprised to hear about their declining vision or possible signs of glaucoma. Often times, patients are unaware of their vision regressing, because their brain has adapted to the changes. Even more concerning is the negative impact declining vision could have on day-to-day activities, such as not seeing clearly while driving or using a razor while shaving.
Overall, I am exceptionally proud that we were able to serve the community. Our booth, described by Resurrection Medical Center was "very popular". Next year we anticipate on seeing, educating and helping even more participants. |
