Since many of my patients have both cataracts and astigmatism I inform them that they will not regain high-quality distance vision after surgery to remove the cataract, unless the astigmatism is also corrected. For cataract patients with astigmatism, successful cataract surgery is only half the battle for regaining quality vision. The good news is that if you experience “Cataracts & Astigmatism” you now have options that can help improve your vision after cataract surgery.

This has been a difficult situation in the past when my patients have a need for cataract surgery and a desire to see far away, without glasses. This required an additional procedure, other than cataract surgery, to correct the astigmatism. The AcrySof® Toric Intraocular Lens (IOL) is advanced technology that now makes it possible to correct the cataract clouding your vision — AND the corneal astigmatism distorting your vision — all at the same time. Now with the Acrysof® Toric I am able to perform a single outpatient procedure, in which the clouded cataract lens is exchanged for an implant designed to correct astigmatism as well.

With the AcrySof® Toric lens, your distance vision can be clear and vibrant, all in just one step! Call my office now to schedule an appointment and see what you’ve been missing!
