Do You See Clearly? PDF Print E-mail

DOCS_TALK_Final_1On Thursday, September 23, 2010, local residents joined me for an informative lecture on Vision Correction options.  The presentation was held in Resurrection Medical Center’s new Marion Conference Hall.

I discussed alternatives to traditional eyeglasses, including the latest advancements in lens technology and vision correction options, such as the Visian ICL and Clear Lens Extraction, which go beyond traditional eyewear.  In a world where technology is constantly changing and advancing, I feel it is my duty, as a physician, to remain on the cutting edge, to educate, and bring awareness to the public that there are many options which are unique to each individual’s needs.

I shared what it is like to have the honor of caring for one of our most important senses, sight, and how it impacts me, as a surgeon, and my patients, when they are able to achieve better vision through our state-of-the-art medical care and treatment.

Following the presentation, the audience participated in an informal question and answer session that covered many eye care topics and various diseases. My hope was that the participants at this lecture walked away feeling that there are viable options that can help them enhance their lives and preserve their sight.

DOCS_TALK_Final_2All of the participants were asked by Resurrection Medical Center to complete a survey directly after the program had commenced and our office received quite a bit of positive feedback.   100% of the registered attendees stated that my lecture met all of their needs and expectations.  89% of the attendees stated that they felt they had a better understanding of vision correction options available.  67% rated me as an excellent speaker, 22% rated my talk as “good”, with only one participant rating it as “fair”.

Regardless of the ratings, the bottom line is that everyone walked away having more knowledge on their vision correction options as well as having been informed of the importance of eye care.  I enjoy going into the community, and raising awareness on visual disorders and treatment options, as well as enriching the lives of my patients through compassionate care and my experience in the Ophthalmology field.

My Dad, Harry Gembala, is one of Dr. Bello's patients here in the US. Thank you, Dr. Bello, for sharing this story about your travels to Italy and "giving back". My granparents came from Poland. My grandfather also left my grandmother behind - with two children, for ten years! - to come to this country and start a new life. I'm an architect and, like you, I'm keenly aware that if it wasn't for the sacrifices my grandparents made to come to this country, I wouldn't enjoy the lifestyle I have now.
