Research indicates that only a small fraction of people realize that not all intraocular lenses are the same.* Many patients are fortunate enough to have a choice when choosing an intraocular lens for cataract surgery. Typically, lenses for cataract surgery fall into two separate categories: standard and lifestyle. Standard lenses, also known as government approved, only correct vision at one distance. Typically, patients who choose this lens are left with the burden of wearing glasses after surgery, for tasks up-close, or for distance, and sometimes both. Lifestyle lenses, allow patients the freedom to become less dependent on glasses, by providing a much better opportunity to see up close, far away, and everything in between. The Toric, ReSTOR, and Crystalens are types of lifestyle lenses, because they almost always provide a better “lifestyle” following cataract surgery.
Fortunately, following surgery, Ms. Henderson had a much better outlook. “The improvement is not only in my reading vision, my distance and intermediate vision are all much sharper, clearer and colors are brighter. I had no idea what I had been missing. I am happy when telling my story helps empower, inspire and motivate people to take care of themselves. It is important for people over 50 to understand what a what a cataract is and what they can do about it."* If you believe you are experiencing symptoms of cataracts we strongly encourage you to schedule an eye exam.
