Implantable Collamer Lens(ICL) provides patients ages 21-45 another avenue when dealing with vision correction. ICL is an intraocular lens used during surgery to correct myopia, with or without astigmatism .

 This procedure was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005 and has  been in the European market since 1997. ICL has been performed on over 80,000 eyes to date.

The ICL is placed between the iris and natural lens of the eye. Because it does not replace the lens, it acts instead as a permanent contact lens that is removable, if needed. Now patients, who seek the latest approved procedures for vision correction now have an alternative.

Long-term exposure to UV radiation can damage the eyes; and longer term or more intense exposure increases the chance of eye disorders including the development of cataracts and some retinal problems. ICL vs. Contacts

• The ICL is considered to be a cure for those who wear contacts and are fed up with the daily hassle. The inconvenience of solution, lost lenses, and taking the contact out when participating in activities (e.g. swimming) has made ICL the perfect procedure for the 21-45 year old that lives an active lifestyle.
• There is no chance of bacterial transmission from placing the contact in your eye. Also corneal abrasions do not occur with the ICL unlike with contact lenses.
• The final advantage of ICL over contact lenses is that dry eyes may have you experience difficulty wearing contact lenses , however they will not effect the ICL procedure.
