Childrens Eyecare

It is a known fact:

One  out of 5 children have some sort of visual problem or refractive error requiring glasses or medical intervention .

The future of your child and his or her performance in school can hinge on healthy eyes and comprehensive vision exams.

All infants should receive a visual screening at birth and once a year thereafter:

Signs of a vision problem include:

▪ Squinting

▪ difficulty in sports

▪ Bumping into objects

▪ Poor grades in school

If your child is having difficulty keeping their glasses on, first make sure that the  glasses fit properly. Children will usually not tell you that they have sore ears and noses as an adult might, so check for redness behind the ears or on the sides of the nose, to be sure the frames aren't rubbing uncomfortably or sliding around.

Here are some quick guidelines for choosing the correct type of eyeglasses:

  • The arms of the frames need to be long enough to fit around the ear
  • The nose bridge does not allow the glasses to slide down the nose
  • There should be plenty of room around the lenses to allow air to flow around the eyes
  • Select spring hinges for enhanced durability
  • Insist on impact-resistant lenses for active children

Kids have a significantly more active lifestyle than most adults.

Sports Goggles

Features on children's eyeglasses, like spring hinges and flatter nose bridge designs, provide a trendy and comfortable fit, but they do not provide adequate protection for children who participate in sports.  We recommend sport goggles for maximum protection for any child who participates in athletic activities, whether or not they require vision correction.  Many permanent eye injuries, resulting in vision loss, could have been prevented with adequate eye safety wear.
